About a 15-minute walk from the bus stop takes you down to Goyytr Wharf on the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal. It offers a good value day’s freshwater fishing on the canal. That 15-minute walk does mean a careful selection of what kit to take in the backpack. But it was a pleasant summer’s day on the bank.
The wharf has a really nice cafe and if you are fishing for the day it is well worth going there for lunch and my recommendation is the ploughman’s. A fantastic selection of nibbles that is highly enjoyable sitting outside in the Sun and watching the boats.
I went on a Bank Holiday weekend and both the canal and towpath were really busy. But I’m happy to reel in when boats and canoeists etc are passing, we all need to share the waterways.
There are supposed to be some quite nice fish in the canal including reasonably sized pike.
If you are looking for a lazy day out in the summer months then this is highly recommended. It’s one of the best-value freshwater fishing locations in South Wales.
