I’ve never been mullet fishing before and with reports of good sightings of the fish in the River Usk at Newport, I decided to head there for a session.
I did buy a loaf of white bread on the way, as it is supposed to be a favourite of mullet, but somehow I lost it on the way to the mark. Still not to be disheartened, I had some gummy worm baits in my bag so I tried them.
I did see a few mullet swimming around in the murky water of the River Usk but could not persuade them to take a definite but of the bait and get hooked. I did have a few nibbles on the bait but nothing substantial.
It was an interesting session and I’ll definitely give mullet fishing a go next time there are reports of the fish in the Usk estuary at Newport in South Wales.
